Around 3pm, on Monday 8 January 2018, two men entered a hardware store in O’Connor via the main entrance and walked to where the pool pumps were located. A female staff member approached the men and spoke to them briefly about their requirements in relation to pool pumps. The staff member walked to the front door and began to carry out security checks of people leaving the store and greeting those entering the store. The second man walked out of the store.
A few minutes later the first man walked past the self-service checkouts and towards the front door whilst carrying a pool pump on one arm and a spanner in his right hand.
The staff member stepped towards the man as he approached and asked the man to pay for the items before leaving. The man replied with words similar to, ’let me through or I will hit you with this’. At the time he held the wrench in a threatening manner towards the staff member. The man swung the wrench towards the staff member who was able to block it and the man left the store.
The man was seen to run to a silver coloured Holden Commodore and got in the passenger side. The vehicle was being driven by the second man who had left the store earlier.
Police have released CCTV images of two men who they believe may be able to assist them with their investigation.
The first man is described as: 20-30 years of age, thin/medium build and short dark hair. He was wearing a red ‘Tapout’ singlet, dark shorts and dark runners.
The second man is described as: 20-30 years of age, medium/solid build, short dark hair and facial hair. He was wearing a light coloured T-shirt, dark shorts and dark runners. He had a small bag around his right shoulder.
