Weapon wielder charged

A man who threatened a shopping centre staff member with a knife is arrested and charged after appearing in the media and being seen at the same location.

Every week in Wednesday’s ‘The West Australian’ newspaper and on radio 6PR and 6iX, Crime Stoppers WA asks for the public to help with information about recent criminal incidents.

One afternoon in May 2018, a Mirrabooka Shopping Centre worker was allegedly threatened with a hunting knife after refusing to give a stranger a cigarette.

A few weeks later we spoke about this case on radio 6PR with our Facebook Live video and the next day it also appeared in ‘The West Australian’.  By that afternoon the suspect was seen at the same location (Mirrabooka Shopping Centre) and wearing the same clothing/items that were mentioned in the media.  The police were contacted, he was subsequently arrested, charged and his bail refused.

He was charged with attempted armed robbery; carrying (possessing) an article with intent to cause fear that someone will be injured or disabled; and possession of any drug paraphernalia in or on which there was a prohibited drug or plant.

Your information does make a difference and we thank you for your ongoing support in helping solve crime and create safer communities.
