Locals help solve beach assault case

Locals who shared a social media appeal and reported information to Crime Stoppers help police catch beach assailant.

Mandurah Detectives have charged a man in relation to an indecent assault incident which occurred at the Madora Bay beach on Monday 19 December 2022.

About 12:50pm, a 17-year-old girl was laying on the beach when it will be alleged a man who was not known to her approached her and touched her indecently. The man then left the beach.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Rosenberg, Officer in Charge of Mandurah Detectives, said the community provided vital information to assist with the investigation.

“..We made an appeal to our local community to assist us with this investigation, and the response we received was significant.

“Our appeal was shared widely via social media and the arrest we have made is a direct result of information members of the community provided to Crime Stoppers.

“On behalf of Mandurah Detectives and local police I thank everyone who shared our appeal, and thank those community members who contacted Crime Stoppers with information which proved to be vital to our investigation.”

On Tuesday 20 December 2022, Mandurah Detectives arrested a 48-year-old man at his Greenfields residence.

The man has been charged with ‘Unlawful and Indecent Assault’. He was refused bail and is due to appear in Mandurah Magistrates Court today, Wednesday 21 December 2022.
