Around 1.20pm on Sunday 12 May 2019, a man walked down the driveway of a house on The Promenade in Mount Pleasant. He walked into an open garage and took a six pack of beer out of a fridge before leaving.

This was witnessed by an off-duty police officer who was walking in the area. The off-duty officer identified himself, producing his police identification and advised the man that he was under arrest. The man sat down on the ground as the officer rang police. The man suddenly stood up and attempted to flee. The officer grabbed the male to prevent his escape and the man punched the officer numerous times to his head. During the scuffle, the jumper the man was wearing came off.

The man was able to get away and run in a westerly direction along Gunbower Road shirtless.

As a result of the assault, the officer received cuts and bruising to his face.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man who they believe may be able to assist them with their investigation.

The man is described as: 25-35 years of age, medium build, dark hair and facial hair. He was wearing a green jumper, blue jeans and brown shoes.
