- Light skinned.
- 157cm (5 feet 2 inches) tall.
- Slim build.
- Long dark brown curly hair.
- Blue eyes.
- Gaye has light facial acne scars.
- Last seen wearing light blue slacks, a navy blouse, white heeled sandals and in possession of a silver purse
Queensland Police Cold Case Homicide Unit are requesting public assistance for the 1972 Murder of Gaye BAKER in 1972. Queensland Police report number QP1700380419 refers.
Investigators are seeking specific information in relation to the victim, her vehicle (Datsun 1200) and another vehicle of interest being an early 1970’s dark brown or maroon Holden Monaro or Valiant Charger.
CASE DETAILS:
- In 2018 the Homicide Cold Case Investigation Team commenced a review into a 47 year old cold case homicide. 23 year old female Gaye Christine BAKER was last seen alive on the morning of the 2nd of July 1972 in Bayview Terrace Clayfield. Her body has never been located.
- Gaye was a Corporal in the Women’s Royal Australian Air Force, joining in October 1969. In 1972 Gaye was a Military Police Officer, based at the Provost Unit at Kangaroo Point. She resided at the Royal Australian Air Force housing complex in Archerfield.
- Gaye was described as thrifty with her money and always looking to better her financial position with future plans of travelling overseas.
- In late June of 1972 Gaye arranged secondary employment to do hostess work for ABCO Services, an escort agency based in Fortitude Valley.
- Around this time, a male person called ABCO seeking a hostess to accompany him to an end of year stocktaking pool party between 9.30am and 4pm on Sunday the 2nd of July 1972 at a residential address in Clayfield.
- The caller provided his name as John TAYLOR, and his contact details as a post box linked to a window furnishing business at Albion. The booking fee was delivered in cash to ABCO by a taxi service.
- Gaye was due to meet this male person outside the Clayfield Bowling Alley on Sandgate Road Clayfield at 9.30am on Sunday the 2nd of July 1972.
- Police believe Gaye drove her own vehicle, a yellow 1971 Datsun 1200 sedan with Queensland registration PUM 800 on the morning of Sunday the 2nd of July 1972, parking and securing it in Bayview Terrace Clayfield, just up from the Clayfield Bowling Alley.
- Gaye was wearing light blue slacks, a navy blouse, white heeled sandals and in possession of a silver purse. Gaye was 157cm tall, slim build with long curly dark brown hair, blue eyes with light facial acne scars.
Police are seeking anyone who may have seen a yellow 1971 Datsun 1200 sedan or a female matching Gaye’s description in the Clayfield area on Sunday the 2nd of July 1972 to contact Police.
- Police believe a male person driving a late 1960’s to early 1970’s dark brown or maroon Holden Monaro or Valiant Charger collected Gaye from near the Clayfield Bowling Alley on the morning of Sunday the 2nd of July 1972.
Police are seeking anyone who may be able to identify the owner or driver of a dark brown or maroon coloured Holden Monaro or Valiant Charger seen in the Clayfield area on Sunday the 2nd of July 1972 to contact Police.
- Gaye was not seen again and was reported missing on Monday the 3rd of July 1972 when she failed to report for duty at the RAAF.
- On Tuesday the 4th of July 1972 Police located Gaye’s vehicle where she had parked it in Bayview Terrace Clayfield.
- Police commenced an investigation, with over 1100 inquiries being conducted.
- Police believe the details provided to ABCO by the male person engaging Gaye’s services were false.
Police are seeking any other person with knowledge of this crime to contact Police.

- There is a $250,000 Reward being offered for information which leads to the apprehension and conviction of the person/persons responsible for the murder of Gaye BAKER. In addition, an appropriate indemnity from prosecution will be recommended for any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the crime, who first gives such information.
