Between 1.40pm and 2.00pm on Monday 28 June 2021, the victim dropped his wallet in a store on Spencer Road in Thornlie. A good Samaritan picked up the wallet in the store and walked up to the counter to hand the wallet in. While doing this, a man standing near the counter claimed the wallet was his and the wallet was handed to this unknown man.
A bank card inside the wallet was used to make six fraudulent purchases later that same day from various retail stores in Maddington.
Police have released CCTV images of a man who they believe may be able to assist them with their investigation.
The man is described as: white skinned, medium build, long shoulder length hair and an unshaven appearance with a sleeve tattoo on his left arm. He was wearing a black T-shirt, beanie and trousers.
