Scams Awareness Week

STOP – CHECK – PROTECT is the simple message from the National Anti-Scam Centre (NASC), not just during Scams Awareness Week (25-29 August) but at any time.

To help us understand just how scams can happen and the impact they can have, some brave victims have shared their stories after being targeted with an investment/crypto scam, romance scam, online marketplace scam and government impersonation scam. They urge you all to Stop. Check. Protect so you don’t get caught too. You can read these stories on the National Anti-Scam website.

In the first half of 2025, in WA alone, nearly 9,000 scams were reported and over $20million in losses, mainly through investment scams, but also via phishing (for personal information) and false billing. Most scammers are reaching people via email, followed by phone calls and then text messages.

The NASC website provides a wealth of information, advice, animations and stories to help you spot scams early and protect yourself and your loved ones. Help spread awareness so we can reduce the harm caused by these criminals.
