Regional Investigations Unit Detectives are investigating two Aggravated Robbery incidents that occurred in Balga and Malaga on Sunday 15 March 2020. Around 5.30pm, a man entered a liquor store on Princess Road Balga. He walked to the fridge area and selected a cube of mixed spirits and went to walk out of the store. A staff member (a male in his 20’s) spoke to him and the male threw the cube of alcohol at him before punching him several times. The man then walked back to the fridge area and selected another cube and walked back towards the victim, before grabbing bottles of spirits from a shelf behind the counter and left the store. As a result of the assault on the staff member, he received minor injuries and received medical treatment.

Around 8.30pm, three males entered a service station on Beach Road and waited for a customer to be served and leave the store. One of the men jumped over the counter, grabbed the staff member (a woman aged in her 20’s) around the throat and pushed her into a wall, before taking an amount of cash from the till as well as a number of packets of cigarettes. The men left the area on foot.

Police have released images of three men who they believe may be able to assist them with their

investigation.

  • The first male is described as: Dark skinned, short dark hair, facial hair, thin/medium build, wearing a dark coloured t-shirt.
  • The second male is described as: Dark skinned, thin build wearing a red cap, camouflage top and carrying a backpack.
  • The third male is described as: Light skinned, thin/medium build, possibly with facial hair. Wearing a dark coloured beanie/hat, blue long sleeved top and dark coloured long pants.

As a result of the incident, the victim received soreness to her throat and head and was conveyed to Joondalup Health Campus by St John Ambulance as a precaution. Detectives believe the two incidents are linked.

Police are seeking any dash-cam footage from the Balga and Malaga areas around the time of the offence. Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Princess Road Balga around 5.30pm and 8.30pm Beach Road Malaga vicinity between 5.30pm to 8.30pm, or has any information in relation to either incident are asked to contact Crime Stoppers www.crimestopperswa.com.au or call 1800 333 000.
