At around 11.35pm on Saturday 5 August 2023, the victim and his partner were standing on James Street in Northbridge waiting for their Uber ride when a man walking past stopped and asked the victim for a cigarette. When the victim replied that he doesn’t smoke and had no cigarettes, the man punched the victim to the side of his head knocking him backwards. The man walked off joining a group of males.

Police have released CCTV images of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

The man is described as: brown skinned, slim build, between 20 to 25 years of age with short black hair. He was wearing a black hooded jacket, black trousers, black runners with a blue ‘Chicago Bulls’ cap and was carrying a black shoulder bag.
