At around 2.30pm on Wednesday 23 October 2024, the victim met up with a male on Kingsway Madeley to purchase a Samsung Galaxy phone advertised on Facebook Marketplace. The victim believed the phone to be genuine and gave the man $1000. Later that day when she attempted to set up the phone, she was informed by a phone company that the mobile was a fake. When the victim tried to contact the seller on Facebook Marketplace, she discovered the account had been deleted.

Police have released CCTV images of the man who they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

The man is described as: dark skinned, average build with short dark hair. He was wearing a black hoodie, black and white track pants, white crocs and was carrying a pair of black sneakers.
