Sometime during the weekend of the 6th and 7th October, a large bronze plaque was stolen from the top of the popular DNA Tower in Kings Park.
The distinctive round plaque is 62cm in diameter and shows distances to Perth landmarks like Rottnest, Fremantle Harbour and Perth city from the top of the tower, which is the highest point in Kings Park.
The plaque weighs 15 – 20kg and was securely bolted to a metal base on the tower. It appears the bolts have been cut with a hacksaw, angle grinder or similar tool.
The plaque cost around $5000 to produce and install, however its value as scrap metal is estimated to be much lower.
Kings Park staff became aware of the theft during a regular patrol on Monday, 8 October.
Scrap metal companies around Perth have been notified of the plaque’s theft.
