It’s a birthday surprise Perth boy Devantae Hira will never forget.
After two days of painful separation from his best friend Paua — a six-month-old English Staffordshire pup — Devantea was woken on his fourth birthday yesterday by licks and cuddles from his beloved pooch.
“Paua ran into Devantae’s bedroom and jumped all over him,” Devantae’s mother Juanita said yesterday.
“I think they were both happy to see each other.”
A neighbour’s CCTV camera captured two men leaping from a Holden Commodore and snatching the pup outside the Hiras’ Huntingdale home on Tuesday morning.
A Crime Stoppers tip-off led police to an Armadale home early yesterday, where they found Paua safe and sound.
The circumstances of Paua’s disappearance are under investigation by police — no arrests had been made or charges laid last night.
Just before 4am yesterday, police knocked on the Huntingdale family’s door to deliver the good news.
Ms Houpapa said it was an emotional reunion as Paua was collected at the Armadale police station while Devantae slept.
The family paid $3000 for the rare puppy but Perth pet shops are advertising English Staffordshire puppies for up to $4500.
